Discourse at Sea
ARTIFACTS (Pam Patterson and Leena Raudvee)
Thursday, June 19,2014,
Queen City Yatch Club, Algonquin Island, Toronto, ON
Seated on two chairs, a table between them, two "giants" of art discuss the vagaries of water travel, ferries, their own (in)decisiveness, and the seeming arbitrary decisions made for them around their civil liberties. Between them on a table rests a large metal tub filled with water. They negotiate, on the tub’s surface between them, a floating toy boat as they ponder, discuss and ruminate.
We as Canadian citizens assume civil liberties are somehow enshrined in our constitution - protected and normalized. But there are people making decisions daily as to how to restrict and control what we can do as they watch us. We are "at sea" when it comes to knowing how to restrict this surveillance.
